Foto Feb

With the start of a new month, there’s also the start of a new series of posts titled Foto Feb.

This is a joint blog with my friend Diane, who got me into blogging in the first place and the 30 Days of me challenge.

The idea is pretty straightforward. One picture taken every day for the month of February, 29 in total (yep, that’s right, it’s a leap year :-)). It might be of something relatively normal, or it might be of me capturing some spectacular moment. You’ll just have to wait and see what serendipitous event takes place.

Someone once said “ I always thought good photos were like good jokes. If you have to explain it, it just isn’t that good”, but I expect some level of explanation will be required on what the photo is of (if not obvious), and the reason it was taken. The description may just consist of a couple of lines, or a couple of paragraphs, it all depends on the circumstances the picture was taken in.

As most of the photos I take are generally using a macro lens, and have flowers as the main subject, it’ll be interesting and hopefully fun to give this a try to see what comes out of it.

30 days of me – Day 30

Day 30 – Your favorite song

There are some contenders to this, and I’m not sure I have a totally all time favorite song?

If I was to say just one, then it’ll be Rose Royce – Car wash. Always makes me smile when I hear it. Doesn’t really matter when or where, but a sunny day in the car driving along is the best place to have it playing.

Below are some of the other contenders that also competed.

Sigur Ros – Hoppipolla generally have no idea what they are singing about, but I’ve always really liked this track. I should probably find out what the words mean in English at some point, the video for it is great.

The Chemical Brothers – Saturate  Real old skool sounding dance track, reminds me of music from the house era. Sounds fantastic pumped through the receiver and gives the subwoofer a hard workout.

Rick Astley – Never gonna give you up You know what, yes, I’ve said it. I’m a child of the 80’s, I grew up listening to this song. Besides, his dancing is so hypnotic, like a human lava lamp. He can still sing better than most of todays line up of clones created in satan’s own boy and girl band lab.

Shelley Nelson – Sometimes  have always loved this song, for various reasons, the orchestral bridge, if that’s the correct term (not sure it is though) as well as the artist herself. Incredible voice, sounds fantastic through (decent) headphones to really pick up the quality. So very talented whether you’re hearing her live or recorded.

In some ways it’s rather fitting that the last question to 30 Days of me, has been spent thinking of tracks that make me happy when I listen to them, or have reminded me of friends I love and miss.

So there you have it. 30 Days of me, answered for you all to read.

30 days of me – Day 29

Day 29 – In this past month, what have you learned

There’s a few things I’ve learnt during the last month of answering these questions.

1. I can remember more and write more than I thought I would be able to.

2. There are not nearly enough recent photos of me. If I went missing tomorrow, the news report would show a montage of pictures of me from when I was between 1 – 13 years old.

3. I seen to be able to write short posts that entertain people (from what I can tell, but please, by all means correct me).

4. There needs to be more updates from me posted so friends can see what is happening. Whether in New Zealand or the UK I feel like I don’t communicate as often as I’d like to with them.

5. When I put my mind to it I can remember to do something, not only in time for when it’s needed. but in advance in some cases.

6. I have learnt to use better grammar, and finally may just have cracked the use of apostrophes, in most cases 🙂

So this is the penultimate post. Only one more to go now in this series.

30 days of me – Day 28

Day 28 – A picture of you last year and now, how have you changed since then?

This photo is a little older than a year, but when there aren’t that many of you around you take what you can find.

It was taken when my aunt and uncle came out from the UK for a visit. As you can see I had longer hair (not sure what I was thinking really), it was pretty hot, hence the frizz. The photo also appears to have captured a rare sight of our robotic cat on the dinning table.

Well this one is certainly better, think we can thank the funky filter Helen used when she took it for that. Less hair is definitely an improvement.

So there you have it, with only two more posts to go 🙂

30 days of me – Day 27

Day 27 – Why are you doing this 30 day challenge

As I said on Day 12, my friend Diane suggested giving it a try. Seemed like a good idea at the time, and it has turned out to be pretty fun to do. I wasn’t entirely convinced that anyone would be interested in reading what I wrote, and so far have been pleasantly surprised.

The questions haven’t been the normal FBish What colour do you like?, When did you last do something?, etc

Only thing that has been a challenge is the fact that I decided to start it on the 1st January and post everyday. Some have been prepared well in advance and then amended before the final upload, others have needed to be rushed through and put up the same day.

30 days of me – Day 26

Day 26 – What you think about your friends

John Paul Satre once said “hell is being locked in a room with your friends.”

Friends are one of the most important things in your life. The right ones will be there for the good times and the bad. Will offer support when you need it and advice when you ask (sometimes when you don’t ask, but generally when it’s needed). The close friends I have I know will do all these things and more. When you have a close bond like that with someone you now that you’ll put up with each others bad jokes, you’ll happily disagree one topics, no matter how strongly you both feel about your view.

You’ll be there for each other and there’s pretty much nothing you wouldn’t do for each other. I might quantify that to offering to dispose of body parts, but not necessarily help with dismemberment, those who know we well will know I’m too squeamish for that. Although thinking on it (not for too long mind), if you want my help with that, freeze them first, I can’t see a problem with everything being frozen 🙂

I’m not in touch with any friends from school, although I’ve exchanged the briefest of protracted IM’s on Friends Reunited with a couple. Same with ones from college. When I decided not to go to the following course after our current one, when others did, that spilt us up and we lost touch. I REALLY hate dancing, so would often not go clubbing every weekend due to the fear of looking like a complete idiot on the dance floor. I should have made more of the 80’s when it was perfectly acceptable and cool, yes, cool, to dance like Rick Astley.

I know which friendships I can rely on 100% to give help, advise and be there when I need them. Relatively newly formed or long time standing I can ask those friends any question and get an honest reply. They should also all know that they would get the same from me too. I will always have time for my friends.
